One2Watch - Dave Kelly's OverDrive Riddim

Time for a new One2Watch here at JamdownReport. This time it comes in the form of the brand new riddim out of Dave Kelly's Mad House record label.

Everybody knows when Dave Kelly drops a new riddim you always check the BabyCham cut first. Cham always sounds best on Dave Kelly productions and the Over Drive riddim doesn't disappoint. Assassin brings it hard on this riddim too.

Jamdown Report's medley features tracks from Assassin, Christopher Martin, Black-Er and Baby Cham. The medley is stream-able from the sidebar.

Bugle - Young Artists Overshadowed by Established Performers

Up-coming artist Bugle says that it can be difficult fighting against more well-established artists when it comes to getting some hype about your tunes. It seems as though recording the best tune on a riddim isn't enough unless you've got a bag a hype to push it.

"My biggest obstacle ah voice pon 1 million riddim and no one paying any attention to it because of the big names on the riddim. If there are 15 songs on it like Bounty, Beenie, Ele, Vybz Kartel and the disc jockey play those, yours might be the last to play and no man nuh have the time fi play 50 million song on the same riddim, so yours might end up not getting played even though it might be the best one on there."

The article in The Star suggests that Bugle hasn't recorded a popular song since his "Jamaican Thing" on the Yard Step rhythm. However, Bugle has songs on rhythms like Tremor, 90s Style and Enrapture's forth-coming Swiss Bank.

Danny English Denied Bail

Dancehall artist Danny English, real name Donald Cox, has been denied bail in his trial for indecent assault. He was brought before the Magistrate to receive sentence for four counts of carnal abuse and a further count of indecent assault.

Many people will probably remember Danny English most from the song he recorded with Egg Nog on the Diwali rhythm called "Party Time".

Cox had previously lived with the family and remained friends with family after moving out. He would later regularly pay visits to the family. It is on these regular visits that Cox would molest the young female. Cox's lawyer attempted to make a requeset for bail but was stopped short by the magistrate, who said:

"I am very reluctant to grant bail because of the number of times and how long this thing has been going on. I'm not comfortable with granting bail in these situations. This has been going on for three years."

NOTE: One876Entertainment is reporting that Danny English is accused of FIFTEEN counts of carnal abuse, rather than the FOUR mentioned in The Star article. Given One876's reputation for exageration and over-hype, I would believe The Star on this one.

Busy Signal's Manager - Truely No Bad Vibes

Busy Signal's former manager, Julian Jones-Griffiths, has confirmed that the split in business is purely amicable.

"He is an extremely talented artiste and needs someone who can devote all of their time and attention to him, just as I did when his career was taking off."

Much has been made of Jones-Griffiths also managing Movado, with some people hinting that Busy was unhappy with playing second-fiddle to Movado.

"Busy and I know the amount of time and energy I put into his career in its early stages, and Busy understands that as Mavado rose, Mavado needed that same commitment from me, as well to help steer his career on the right path" Jones-Griffith told THE STAR.

Dance Moves Potentially Dangerous

In the world of the dancehall, creating a new dance move can make you a star. Competition between dancers, though, seems to be leading towards potential injuries or worse.

Everybody remembers the controvesy around the Dutty Wine. Could it kill you or not??? Now though the hottest new dances on the Kingston streets are the Drop Dead and the Grievance. The drop dead involves the dancer to, unsurprisingly, drop dead. "If yuh see a big fat woman a Drop Dead she nuh mus hurt herself?" she asked.

"If yuh see a big fat woman a Drop Dead she nuh mus hurt herself? It's different when yuh can dance; when yuh can dance yuh know yuh limit. Audiences are doing dem and hurting demselves. Dem haffi understand is di same ting like entertainment - not everybody suppose to do it."

But what about the Grievance, a product of the Ravers Clavers crew, where a male and a female enact a fight between themselves? Some dancers aren't happ

"Is a dance like yuh beat di women and same time yuh wining. Yuh only fake though, yuh don't connect. A di women dem a mek di man dem do it. Really and truly, mi don't get miself involve, mi don't like it. Is only di real dancehall women who like it more dutty " says dancer Ice.

Munga Stabs At Producer

One of dancehall's hottest new artists, Munga Honorable, apparently tried to stab Jamaican producer Cassadie "Casper" Jones, over an argument about master-tapes for a song Munga wants on his album.

When me drive in, him start come towards the car door. Mi come out, slam mi door and bounce him off wid mi shoulder and walk away. When mi look, me see Munga pop off knife and start move towards me... So mi tell him fi put down the knife and mek me beat up yu... Mi just move to him said way, and mi ease him off, and the bredrin dem a hold on pon him, and is like him get way from dem, and juck offa me wid the knife. Him de a couple of metres away from me and still a jook after me, and mi look straight inna him eye when him a do it. Is a coward ting him de pon…if me did ever hold him inna time wid me ego….” he said, sounding extremely angry

According to One876Entertainment Munga can have the masters for his album, he just needs to do it in a professional way...

“Dem want it on the Munga album, but it is not a problem, however they are not going to get my data files. There has been no proper business approach about it, mi no know what a gwaan, but one thing I know, I am not going to give away my data files"

Buju Banton - Still Gruff After 20 Years

Burro Banton, the man who's distinctly ruff-voiced sound has been around for over 20 years, is still one of the best performers in the dancehalls. His hot new tune "Badda Dan Dem", cut over Massive B's new No Borders Riddim, is bringing the artist back to public attention. Barely any of the that attention though is coming from Jamaica...

"I don't get the most love fi a man weh really start di ting, di original Burru Banton. But right now, mi a di biggest ting a like Japan an Europe, a deh suh my ting deh right now. Jamaica, mi deh yah long time an mi really neva fight fi it yet, all mi ask fah is a likkle love"

Vybz Kartel Vs Garrison Don - Reason Behind Spanish Town Shootings

Popular dancehall artist Vybz Kartel's alledged feud with a community don in the Waterford area of Portmore is one of the possible reasons behind shootings which left three dead.

"I don't know what started the recent feud. It is a long time feud, and I don't know what triggered it between the gang dem. No arrests have been made. The area calm down because we have had dialogue with members of both sides," said the officer.

"We have heard of those allegations (the feud between Kartel and the don) but we have been unable to prove it. What we are hearing is just pure speculation. When we met with both sides they denied it flatly. Both Kartel and the other person said they knew nothing about the feud and how it started
" said a representative of the Waterford Police.
