Dancers - New Skool Robbing Old Skool
Modern dancers are stealing old dance moves and calling them their own. That's the view of an article posted on the The Star's website today.
"Dem just a name ova a dance and say a fi dem own ... Mi nuh know if people nuh notice say 'rum ram' and 'stookie' a di same dance, is just dat wid 'rum ram' you lift up your foot," says Ice, of Black Roses Crew.
In the ultra-competitive world of dancehall dancers, creating a popular new dance can make you famous overnight.
"This whole thing causing a lot of controversy in the dance right now. That's what happened with 'tek weh yuhself' that Black Blingaz made and Ova Mars come with 'paper bag'. It's basically the same thing, but with little changes made and everybody know that the dance was basically created by Black Blingaz. So even though people might still do the dance and call it the 'paper bag', them will still know it was 'tek weh yuhself'." says Taz, of Timeless Dancers.
